Math 135 Calculus 1 for Sloan Students
Welcome to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs' online Calculus 1 course exclusively for students enrolled through the Sloan program. You will be watching the same lectures that students enrolled in our on campus class receive. However, since this course starts in October, you will be on a different time table. Please ignore all dates that are mentioned as part of the lectures. Your deadlines are listed on this page.
In order to participate in this course, you will need internet access, the ability to submit homework (if you can't fax it, please contact me), and the book. The book is Calculus, Early Transcendentals, 5th edition by James Stewart. It is important that you get the Early Transcendental version.
You should start this course by reading over the syllabus.
Next, you should read the information about how to download Learnlinc. Learnlinc is the program we use to record the lectures. It records everything I write and everything I say. Please read the following handout.
Homework: Each week, I will have you listen to the lectures and submit homework. You should complete the homework assignments listed on this page. (They may differ from the ones listed in the lectures since your semester is compressed. Also, if we did an "in-class" assignment that is not listed on this page, you do not need to submit it.) Your homework is due by 3:00p.m. on the required date. You should fax it to: (719)262-3605.
I will continue to add to the later rows of this table as
we move through the semester!!
Please feel free to email me when you have questions!! smichaux@math.uccs.edu

| Week of October 9-16 | Make sure I have your proctor information! | Review Precalculus- Hopefully, this is just a review and you may have even done this before your class was disrupted by the storm. So, I'd like you to move very quickly over this material. The first 5 lectures (dated 8/23-9/1) on the Learnlinc page deal with a review of Precalculus. The audio on the first lecture is very bad. Lecture #5 contained a review for the quiz. I would recommend that you just print the notes for these lectures and only listen to the ones that you feel the need to review with. (The real work will start next week.) If you prefer, I've also developed modules that address these issues. They can be found at http://web.eas.uccs.edu/MA/refresher/ | Homework due Tuesday, October 18 (this homework
assignment is optional) Section 1.1 #1,5,6,23-27,42,46,53 Section 1.2 #3,10 Section 1.3 #1,3,13,37 Section 1.5 #13,17,25a-c Section 1.6 #5,6,17,23,35-39,49,50
